Sureni Weerasekera

Sureni Weerasekera is a Sri Lankan-born, San Diego-raised, & New York-based stand-up comedian, actor, creator, and writer. She recently starred as an actor in numerous festival films including Human Theories (Tribeca 2026), Poreless (Tribeca 2025), Skin (Fantasia 2025 - Audience Pick), Mango Chile Pie (NewFest 2024) and Hot Seat (New Fest 2024 - Jury Special Mention). Sureni has toured as a headliner across the country, regularly performs at colleges with KP Comedy and has brought her high energy act to Netflix Is a Joke, New York Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest and more. Sureni was featured on Don’t Tell Comedy and was honored as a performer on the 2024 Netflix Is a Joke “Introducing…” showcase. 

With an aptitude for writing, Sureni was awarded the Killing My Lobster's Diversity in Comedy Writing Fellowship, received Rickshaw Film Foundation's Writer's Room Program and was selected for Unlock Her Potential's mentorship program where she was paired with Hari Kondabolu. In 2025, she wrote on Brittany Broski's Royal Court and co-wrote her viral episode of Brooklyn Coffee Shop. She has showcased her gift for gab on Subway Takes, Gaydar, Caleb Hearon's podcast So True and will bring those talents to host her own creation, Lunch Lady, coming soon to YouTube. She previously co-hosted the stand-up show Earth Tones with SNL writer Asha Ward and now hosts her own monthly, Sureni & Lovers, which has garnered a cult following and regularly sells out. She is a paid regular at The Stand & New York Comedy Club.

In 2026, she is slated to headline the New York Comedy Festival, Motor City Comedy Festival, Honcho Campout and she will tape with NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.
